MasterCard® Identity Check

Effective August 8, 2023, Mastercard requires participation in an authentication process for e-commerce transactions.  This risk-based authentication process is a security feature called Mastercard Identity Check.

When your SHAZAM debit card is used with an ecommerce merchant you may be asked to identify yourself with a One-Time Passcode.  You will receive the One-Time Passcode via text* message.  This code will be required at the checkout screen with the SHAZAM logo.

If an invalid One-Time Passcode is entered in the checkout screen, the transaction will not be authenticated. If three (3) consecutive invalid One-time passcodes are entered into the checkout screen, your card will be blocked for that specific merchant. To unblock your debit card, please contact Citizens Bank at 505-599-0100 or visit any Citizens Bank location.

If you did not make an ecommerce transaction and receive a text message that you were not expecting, please do not respond.

  • Cross Border/International debit card transaction fees apply. This fee will be 2 percent of the transactions dollar amount and applies to all debit card customers.
  • No annual fee. However, there is a replacement fee of $10.00.
